Georgia Pied a Tierre
This space is part of a duplex created when the owners purchased an adjacent condo to create a mother-in-law's suite for the husband's mother. This property had not been updated since it was built in the 1970s, and the renovation required everything be removed to the studs to accommodate new plumbing, wiring, lighting, and sound systems.
The clients, avid and accomplished ballroom dancers, wanted a modern, uncluttered space where they could entertain, relax, and when the mood struck, move the furniture aside to dance. With their pared-down esthetic, they were drawn to the super sleek Italian component kitchens they'd seen at Pedini Atlanta. Since the ceilings were lower on the entertainment first floor, it was decided to paint the walls and ceilings a similar color to the Pedini cabinets to create the illusion of height and space.
To balance the darker color of the walls and ceiling, an off-white large format cork tiles were installed which also provided the ideal floor for their dancing.
The cut crystal globe light over the stove is actually the vent fan which can be disassembled and put in the dishwasher for cleaning. The backsplash behind the stove area is a blend of matte and chiseled white marble.
